Health is a fundamental requirement for everyone. Without good health, life cannot be enjoyed. Without health, all other things in life fade away into obscurity. For example, no matter how much wealth that you may have, if you are sick, you will not enjoy the wealth and you may even be willing to trade all of it just to get well. This is the same with education, fame, and other things that we may otherwise consider as important in life.
Today, the lifestyles that people are living in are increasingly exposing them to health hazards. Our lifestyles are exposing our bodies into conditions that overburden them. Modern lifestyles also lead to the introduction of unhealthy elements into the body.
A good example is in the food we eat. People today are eating more and more junk food without considering the long term consequences. Junk foods are becoming popular among people because they are considered convenient for people who do not have much time to spend on cooking and people who do not have sufficient money to spend on healthy foods prepared at proper diners. Junk food is also appealing to many people simply due to its tasty nature. Junk food is usually made to be as tasty as possible to attract more sales.
This phenomenon can be seen in some of the best buffets in Singapore. The buffets usually contain some tasty fatty or sugary foods that many people love which make the buffets famous. Junk food is a health hazard for the body since it barely contains any advantageous nutrients for the body and instead contains lots of unhealthy elements that are detrimental. Unhealthy elements contained in junk food include unhealthy calories. These are calories that do not provide healthy energy but are calories that will only lead to the accumulation of fat.
Since people are today not very active, the accumulation of fat in their bodies is already rampant in their bodies due to the fact that they do not use up the energy that is in their food. Eating junk food makes the accumulation of fat faster. Leading an inactive lifestyle and feeding on Junk food also leads to the accumulation of cholesterol in the body. Cholesterol is a substance that is highly responsible for causing many respiratory and heart complications.
Many Singaporeans have an unhealthy lifestyle where they work all day – most of the time while seated staring at computer screens. In the evening, they take a short walk to the MRT station or to the bus station where they get a ride home. From the spot where they are dropped by the MRT or the bus, they walk a short distance to their HDB flat where they avoid the stairs and take the lift to their room. In their room, they have very little time to do anything else before settling down and resting in readiness for another working day. As such, they will simply unpack the junk food they bought on the way home, warm it, and eat before going to bed.
