There so many different students that have a passion for music. But many of them do not pursue a degree in music because they do not feel like they could ever get a high paying job in the music field. One thing they do not know is you can always make money doing what you love. If you love music then that is what you should pursue when you attend college. There are many options for students who want to play music or enjoy working in or around music. If this is where your heart lies, then there are many career options available for you. Don’t give up just yet!
If you like working in or around music and like going out and meeting new people then becoming a booking agent may be a good option for you. A booking agent is in charge of booking shows for musicians. It is very hard to be a musician and it takes a lot of time to deal with managers, record labels, venues, etc. If this is the case, they would hire a booking agent to handle all of that special work. They would book all of their shows and go out and mingle with people in clubs and venues to get the musician’s name out there. They typically take care of any financial transactions with the venues and other places. It is not necessary to obtain a degree to become a booking agent, but studying marketing or business would be a good boost for you if you are thinking of heading into this field.
Becoming a really good songwriter is not an easy task. Being good at putting poetic words together with music and making a hit out of it be downright frustrating at times. There are a number of online courses available that will help you become a better songwriter, but there are very few degree programs that promote songwriting as a profession. The Berklee College of music offers courses in songwriting and other music-related courses which would help you learn to read and compose music better. Taking a few marketing classes wouldn’t be a bad idea either as you may someday have to market your own material to the public. There is no right or wrong way to go about becoming a songwriter. You simply have to have the heart and the patience for it. It can be trying at times, but worth it if you love your job.
Even though these tasks may not be easy ones, you can always make money doing what you love. You just have to have the heart and the patience to push through all of the doors that may be closed in your face. For every door that is closed, another one is opened.
