Most women have a rough idea of their measurements but instead of assuming, you should get an accurate measurement. Having yourself measured by a professional is one of the most reliable methods of obtaining your measurements but you can still measure yourself if you follow simple guidelines on how to do it. You need to take measurements of your chest, hips, inseam and waist to know the size of dress to wear or evaluate whether you are having positive work out results. Measuring your upper arm and thigh is also recommended depending on the dress/cloth you want to buy or wear. To get accurate results, you need to use a cloth measuring tape and ensure that you are measuring over your bare skin or you’ve skin tight clothes when measuring yourself. Please be sure to also checkout business outfits here. Follow this guideline to know how you can measure:
Chest or Bust
This measurement is mainly used for tops and dresses in women. To measure your chest/bust correctly, you should place one end of the tape measure where your bust is full and then wrap the tape around your body while keeping it parallel to the floor. Remember, pass the tape under your arms and around your shoulder blades to have accurate measurements. A good posture is also necessary to avoid having wrong measurements.
Waist
Waist measurement is used for dresses, tops and bottoms. Here, you should take measurements of your natural waistline which is located below your ribcage and above your belly button. Measure the circumference of the narrowest part of your waist by wrapping the rape around your waistline. Avoid bending or sucking in your stomach whilst taking the measurement.
Hips
Hips measurement is mainly used for bottoms and sometimes for dresses. You need to stand with your hips together your hips’ circumference. Make sure that the tape passes over your buttocks especially the largest part of your buttocks. When taking hips measurements, keeping the tape measure level is one of the biggest challenges most people face. You can take the measurements in front of a mirror or have a friend assist you because it can be challenging.
Inseam
Inseam measurement is used for jeans and trousers. When taking inseam measurements, wear fitting pants and stretch the tape from your crotch to the bottom of your ankle. After getting the measurement, round it off to the nearest ½ inches to get accurate results. Women should note getting accurate inseam measurement depends on the type of shoes they are wearing (heels or flats). Therefore, women are advised to take two inseam measurements i.e. one measurement when they wear trousers they would wear with their flats and the second measurement when they wear their heels.
If you have accurate measurements of yourself, you will be able to get clothes that fit you properly. In addition, with accurate measurements, you can shop online easily because most cloth manufacturers have waist, hips and bust sizes laid out in inches or centimetres to help buyers to choose what they are looking for. Be keen to look at cloth sizes and units used in measurements to avoid choosing clothes that don’t fit you.
