The course that one chooses to study in college usually determines what career one will pursue in their adult life. It is very hard to change a career path after college. This is because of the time and effort that is required in studying for the career. In college one usually has everything favoring him or her to study. In college one has sufficient time and one does not have any other responsibilities bogging him down. In college also one usually has the support of parents or guardians.
After college life, one usually gets into another phase of life where one meets new challenges. With these new challenges usually come new responsibilities that one has to see to. Many times after college one gets employed and he or she gets committed to the work responsibilities. Work responsibilities usually take up much of an individual’s time and after work one is usually very tired to be able to focus effectively in any other undertaking – especially study.
After college one also does not have as much time to study, get into a profession and effectively climb up the career ladder. When someone gets employed late in their life, they are usually at a disadvantage as compared to those who got into the career earlier. Those who get into a career earlier have adequate time to scale the career ladder and it might be very hard or impossible for one who starts late to catch up.
Many times people change career courses when they realize that they made a mistake in choosing their courses. For example, people in the medicine field often change their courses when they realize that they are not suited for the particular field they chose.
For example, a person studying to be a general medical doctor might in the middle of their course realize that they are not strong enough to withstand the sight of blood. Some might realize that the burden of ailing or suffering patients is too much for their emotional health. Others might discover that they are not comfortable with dealing with the death of their patients.
Many medical students who encounter such challenges opt to change their courses to other fields. Some for the most common fields that they opt to take include fields such as pharmacy. Pharmacy is a course in the medical field although it does not expose the individual to the harsh encounters that the doctor is exposed to. A pharmacists does not have to deal with a lot of bloody encounters, one does not have to deal personally with patients, and one does not have to deal with the death of patients.
Another course that such students can opt to pursue instead of being a doctor is cosmetology. Cosmetology is a course that trains individual on the beautification of the skin, hair and nails. Just like medicine, it is a field that deals with the human body and it is a career that deals with providing help for people. Unlike being a doctor where one has to deal with some terrifying episodes, cosmetology is a lot of fun.
